Universal Tower Defense X Unit Comparison: Compare Any Two Units Head-to-Head
Pick two units, set each level (0-5), and read DPS, cost, DPS-per-cost, range, and a role verdict side by side. No team-sum math here - this is a direct two-unit diff.
TL;DR - quick decision guide
- For raw damage: pick the unit with higher DPS at your current level, not the higher rarity.
- For budget builds: look at DPS per cost - Crow Shinobi and Bambee outperform their tiers here.
- For boss waves: role matters more than DPS number. A boss-killer at lower DPS often out-performs a ground-dps unit in the same slot.
- Secrets cost more - check whether the DPS-per-cost gain justifies the gold before committing.

How to read this comparison
The comparison table highlights the winning cell per row. Green means higher on that metric, which is better for DPS and range. For cost, lower is better, so the cheaper unit's cell turns green. When both numbers are equal, neither cell is highlighted.
DPS per cost is the most useful single number for budget decisions. It answers the question: how much damage does each gold coin buy at this level? A unit with lower raw DPS but a higher ratio is often the smarter pickup on a tight economy run. The tradeoff is that DPS-per-cost ignores role - a high-ratio farm unit does not replace a boss-killer on a boss wave, regardless of the ratio.
Role matters separately from DPS. Two units with similar DPS numbers can perform very differently if one is a boss-killer and the other is a ground-dps unit. The verdict block at the bottom of the comparison spells this out: "pick Unit A for X, pick Unit B for Y." Read that before deciding which slot to fill.
One honest downside: the comparison tool uses static level-scaling math (15% per level). It does not account for rage triggers, on-hit abilities, or boss-contact uptime mechanics that make some Secret units outperform their DPS number in real runs. Use the numbers as a starting point, not a final answer.

Picking by role: boss-killer vs farmer vs control
Rarity does not determine slot value in UTDX. Role does. The comparison tool shows role on every result, but here is the framework for when each role belongs in a build.
Boss-killers (First Emperor, Alpha Devil, Nutaru, The Strongest in History) exist to spike damage in short windows during boss contact. They often have lower DPS-per-cost than mid-tier units because their value is burst timing, not sustained output. If your build leaks on boss waves but holds wave 1-40 fine, you need a boss-killer, not a higher aggregate DPS number.
Ground-dps and hill-dps units (Ancient Shinobi, King Sailor, Crow Shinobi) are your sustained carries. They perform best on long lanes with consistent firing windows. Comparing two of these by DPS-per-cost is valid because both operate the same way.
Farm units (Bulmo, Fastcart) barely register on a DPS comparison. Their value is in the gold they generate, which funds upgrades for the actual carries. Never cut a carry slot to fit a second farm unit unless you are running a dedicated economy build on a long-loop map.
Support and utility units (Virtual Idol, Water God, Ice Empress) also do not win DPS comparisons. Their value is in what they add to nearby carries. A 15% aura from Virtual Idol touching two carries adds more total team DPS than the support's own DPS number suggests. Compare them by the DPS they enable, not by their own output.

FAQ
How do I compare UTDX units head to head?
Select two units from the dropdowns, set their levels, and the comparison table updates instantly. Each row highlights the winner so you can see at a glance which unit wins on DPS, cost efficiency, range, and role fit.
Which UTDX unit is better for boss waves?
For boss waves, units with the boss-killer role (First Emperor, Alpha Devil, Nutaru) deal the most burst damage in short windows. The comparison tool shows DPS-per-cost so you can weigh whether a cheaper Legendary holds its own against a Secret-tier boss unit on your current account.
What is DPS per cost in UTDX unit comparison?
DPS per cost is the unit's damage-per-second at a chosen level divided by its placement cost. A higher ratio means you get more damage for each gold spent. Budget builds should target ratios above 0.09; Secret-tier units typically land between 0.05 and 0.08 because their value comes from burst mechanics, not raw efficiency.
How does level scaling work when comparing utdx units?
Each level adds 15% to base DPS. At level 5 a unit deals 1.75 times its level-0 damage. The gap between a level-0 and level-5 Secret unit is larger in absolute DPS than the same gap on a Rare unit, so high-base-damage units scale harder.
Secret vs Mythic UTDX units: which should I pick?
Secrets have higher raw DPS ceilings but cost more and are harder to pull. Mythics like King Sailor or Ancient Shinobi deliver competitive DPS at lower cost, making them stronger in DPS-per-cost comparisons at equal levels. Use the comparator to check the exact tradeoff at your current account's levels.
Which UTDX units are the most cost-efficient?
Crow Shinobi (Reanimated) at Legendary tier typically leads DPS-per-cost thanks to its high fire rate and modest placement cost. Bambee (Rare) holds the best ratio among budget units. The comparison tool lets you verify this at any level combination.
Can I compare utdx units at different levels?
Yes. Set Unit A to level 3 and Unit B to level 0 to model a realistic mid-game scenario. The tool computes DPS at whatever level you input, so you can see whether a lower-level high-tier unit still beats a maxed lower-tier unit.
What does the best value unit utdx mean?
Best value depends on what you need. If gold is tight, look at DPS-per-cost. If you need to clear a boss, look at raw level-5 DPS. The comparator shows both numbers plus role, so you can make the right call for your current run instead of chasing rarity alone.
